The Obson Talkback Plugin

The Obson Talkback Plugin is a simple bit of software that we put together for our own use. It worked well for us and so we had the idea that it might be something you’d appreciate too.

If you’re new to internet marketing, or if you’re a seasoned practitioner and just want to test the market for a new project, this plugin might be just what you need.

It’s very simple to set up and easy to use, and is completely self-contained. It doesn’t use AWeber, ActiveCampaign, LeadPages, or any other external services, useful as they are. At the beginning of a project all you really want is something very simple that allows you to communicate with a small sample of potential users with the minimum of fuss and bother. Once you get beyond a few hundred contacts it’s a different story — you need some help in keeping things organised, but at the beginning of a project, when, let’s face it, you’re not even sure it’s going to be viable, simplicity is of the essence.

How it works

The Obson Talkback plugin is, as the name suggests, a WordPress plugin. If your site is built on WordPress you’ll know how easy it is to install a plugin (but we’ll give you instructions anyway, just in case). Once you’ve installed it your site will immediately have a new set of capabilities. These allow you to define a collection of special posts (which we call ‘questions’) that will appear on a special ‘landing page’. The user answers the questions, the plugin emails the answers to you (with the user’s email adress) and the user gets a free giveaway of your choosing. That’s it, basically.

If you got here by completing our survey you’ve already used the plugin — as a user. If you haven’t yet completed the survey please do so now, as it will give you a much better idea of what we’re talking about! When you’ve completed it it will bring you back here again…

So now you know how it looks from the user’s end of things. The amount of configuration you can do is deliberately limited, to keep things simple, but you can change the questions (and how many there are), the types of answers required, the colours, and the content of the emails. Simplicity, ease of use, and reliability were our key considerations.

Now it’s time for a bit more detail. However, although we’re giving the plugin away completely free of charge, we really only want to give it away to people who have done our survey (as an internet marketer we’re sure you’ll understand!), so the tutorial pages are password-protected.
